THINKING OF DRIVING FOR UBER?

Understand the steps, costs and trade-offs before you commit.

How to get started

  1. Check eligibility: confirm you can legally work in the UK and meet local driving-licence and licensing authority requirements.
  2. Apply for a private hire driver licence: follow your council or TfL licensing process; medical, checks and tests may be required.
  3. Choose an eligible vehicle: verify vehicle and emissions standards before buying or renting.
  4. Arrange appropriate insurance: normal social, domestic and pleasure cover is not sufficient for carrying paying passengers.
  5. Apply through Uber: upload the required documents and complete Uber's onboarding process.
  6. Work out your finances: estimate real costs, hours and net income before committing.
